The best time is March to June (spring-summer) for pleasant weather and clear mountain views. September to November (autumn) also offers beautiful landscapes with clear skies. December to February is for snow lovers but some passes may be closed. Rohtang Pass is usually open from May to November.
Rohtang Pass accessibility depends on weather conditions and government permissions. It's usually open from May to November, but can close temporarily due to snow or landslides. We arrange alternative sightseeing to Solang Valley or other nearby attractions if Rohtang is inaccessible. Permits are arranged by us at extra cost.
Essential items: Warm clothing (even in summer), comfortable walking shoes, rain jacket, sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, woolen caps/gloves for Rohtang, power bank, basic medicines for altitude, valid ID proofs, camera with extra batteries. Pack light woolens for summer, heavy woolens for winter.
The road journeys are scenic but mountainous. Manali to Shimla takes 7-8 hours (250 km), Shimla to Dharamshala takes 6-7 hours (240 km). Roads are generally good but winding. We use comfortable AC vehicles with experienced drivers. Frequent breaks are provided for photography and refreshments.
